Dr. Arati Prabhkar nominated as Science Advisor
Yesterday, President Biden announced his intent to nominate Dr. Arati Prabhakar as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Dr. Prabhaker started her extensive science and technology career as a Congressional Fellow, Office of Technology Assessment, United States Congress, and subsequently served as Director, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Director, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and as a senior executive in various private sector organizations in Silicon Valley. She holds the PhD and MS degrees from the California Institute of Technology, and the BSEE from Texas Tech University.
When confirmed by the United States Senate, Dr. Prabhakar will replace Dr. Francis Collins, former Director, National Institutes of Health, who is currently the Acting Science Advisor to the President, and Dr. Prabhakar also will fill the vacancy of OSTP Director, which is being held on an acting basis by Dr. Alondra Nelson, OSTP Deputy Director.
